Making our new house home!

LOCATION:  In our casita in Mission, Texas
WEATHER:  Very pleasant, but cooler.  High 58

It is a good thing we brought our plants in last night, as there was “frost on the pumpkin” this AM.  One of our plants in the garden got zapped a bit, but I think it will make it.

We spent most of the day shopping….at Home Depot and at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.  The main purchase was shelving for our storage area, and kitchen things.  The color scheme is grey and white, punctuated with orange.  I took an orange bowl (which matches the orange barstools) to make sure I was buying the right shade of orange – for napkins, etc.  Orange is not orange is not orange!

After an exhausting morning, we stopped at one of our favorite places – Roosevelt’s, for lunch.  It seems like a beer bar, but has an excellent chef (as well as the best craft beer selection in the valley).  We shared their weekly special – an avocado stuffed with spicy chicken.  Yum!  Not your typical bar food.

George worked on painting the accent wall in our living room.  The previous owners painted it a very dark brown.  We are repainting it a medium grey to go with the other walls that are light grey.  We think it will lighten things up.

DINNER:  For good luck in 2022, I made a black-eyed-pea recipe.  You could use cannellini or other beans.  I sauted some onion and garlic, added tomato paste and canned tomatoes.  Then the beans and thyme.  While it was cooking, I made a topping of panko, parmesan, and oregano.  I covered the bean mix with the panko mix, then topped with mozarella cheese.  Bake at 400 for about 15 minutes, until brown on top.  Good luck and good eating!
